We know that unfair exclusion from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) has exacerbated food insecurity and poverty in Puerto Rico. Many of our fellow U.S. citizens are suffering as a result.
We know that the current Nutrition Assistance Program (NAP) is wholly inadequate to serve the needs of more than 1.4 million U.S. citizens living in Puerto Rico. Meanwhile, U.S. citizens living elsewhere in the U.S. receive SNAP benefits.
We know that it’s time to act to support food equity in Puerto Rico.
Take Action
For decades, U.S. citizens in Puerto Rico have been excluded from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) that all other U.S. citizens are entitled to and benefit from. As a result, U.S. citizens on the island struggle daily with food insecurity and poverty. The disparities and inequities created and sustained by Puerto Rico’s exclusion from SNAP must end. We call for legislative action to integrate Puerto Rico into SNAP. Let’s be fair.
